Bangladesh will be land of free thought and speech: Agri minister

CUMILLA, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS)- Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Livestock Amin Ur Rashid has sought cooperation from all concerned to materialize the hopes and aspirations of the people.

“A democratic government has come to power through a fair election after a long time. So people have many expectations from this government,” he said. 

“Future Bangladesh will be a country of free thought and speech. The incumbent government will obviously work towards this goal,” he said.

The minister was talking with journalists at Cumilla Circuit House here today.

Pointing out the industrial development of Cumilla, the minister said Cumilla has now turned into an industrial hub where he had established the first export-oriented factory. 

“You have encouraged me. Now there has been a kind of industrial revolution in Cumilla. Its progress will continue,” he said.

Amin Ur Rashid said, Cumilla was the pioneer of introducing modern agriculture. BARD founder Dr Akhtar Hamid Khan invented the irrigation project identified as 'Cumilla Model' which is still appreciated at home and abroad.

Saying that his position in the cabinet is completely voluntary, the agriculture minister said he would not take salaries and allowances nor transport from the government. 

He assured people of Cumilla to remain always beside them and bring back the glory of Cumilla as an educational city.

About fulfillment of longstanding demand for establishment of the Cumilla Division, Amin Ur Rashid said, he would play a leading role for its implementation.

General Secretary of the City unit of BNP Yusuf Molla Tipu, Sadar Upazila BNP President Rezaul Qayyum and senior government officials were present.
