BHOLA, March 1, 2026 (BSS)- A two-month ban on catching all types of fishes in the rivers of Bhola, including two hilsa sanctuaries, began today to protect jatka and boost fish production.

The restriction will continue until April 30.

Fishing will remain suspended in the Meghna and Tentulia rivers along with other connected rivers in the district during the period.

District Fisheries Officer Iqbal Hossain said a task force comprising law enforcement agencies has started patrol to enforce the ban.

Authorities also mentioned that 90,213 fishermen will receive 40 kilograms of rice per month as government assistance, while 13,600 others will get support under the Hilsa Resource Development Project.

Fishermen urged the authorities to ensure timely distribution of food assistance during the restriction period.
