Travel ban imposed on ex-Dhaka WASA MD, wife

DHAKA, Mar 10, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today imposed a travel ban on former Managing Director (MD) of Dhaka WASA, Abdus Salam Bepari and his wife, Mahbubunnesa, and ordered authorities to submit information on 21 institutions linked to their interests.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
 
The petition stated that Md Abdus Salam Bepari, his wife Mahbubunnessa, and persons linked to their interests allegedly amassed a huge amount of wealth through illegal means and laundered domestic and foreign currencies, acquiring substantial properties in Canada and several other countries.
 
It further said that, in the interest of a proper investigation into the alleged money laundering, it is necessary to restrict the foreign travel of the accused and to direct the authorities of 21 institutions to provide information regarding accounts and assets held in the names of Md Abdus Salam Bepari, Mahbubunnesa, and their related entities.
