DHAKA, March 25, 2026 (BSS) – BIMSTEC Secretary General Indra Mani Pandey has underscored the importance of business-to-business (B2B) relations to enhance intra-regional trade and investment across the Bay of Bengal region.
He made the remarks while welcoming the recent launch of India’s leadership of the BIMSTEC Business Council, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening economic cooperation among member states, said a press release here today.
The BIMSTEC Secretariat also welcomed the initiative by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), noting that it would help deepen trade and investment through stronger business linkages.
Pandey said plans are underway to launch a BIMSTEC Chamber of Commerce and Industries and a platform for investment promotion authorities to further accelerate regional economic integration.
He expressed optimism that, together with ASSOCHAM’s leadership, these platforms would bring business communities closer and contribute to sustainable development in the Bay of Bengal region.
The newly formed leadership has outlined a strategic agenda focusing on trade facilitation, multi-modal connectivity and MSME cooperation, aligning with the BIMSTEC “Bangkok Vision 2030” aimed at building a resilient and prosperous region.
ASSOCHAM President Nirmal K Minda highlighted the need to enhance connectivity, support MSMEs and create new investment opportunities across member countries.
ASSOCHAM Secretary General Saurabh Sanyal said the initiative reflects a commitment to fostering industry-government collaboration across the seven-member grouping.
BIMSTEC Business Council India Chair Tribhuvan Darbari described the region as a “USD 5 trillion opportunity,” stressing the need for deeper trade integration and seamless connectivity.
Diplomatic representatives from Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand also attended the event.
BIMSTEC comprises seven countries—Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
