BARISHAL, April 1, 2026 (BSS) - Newly appointed Administrator of Barishal City Corporation (BCC) Advocate Bilkis Akhter Jahan Shirin has said that urgent steps are being taken to address the city’s longstanding problems, with priority given to cleanliness and mosquito control.

She made these remarks during a greeting exchange meeting with journalists held at the Barishal Press Club Hallroom on Wednesday noon.

In her speech Shirin expressed her vision to transform Barishal into a beautiful and clean city. “I want to make Barishal City Corporation a city like a flower. If there are mistakes, I want the opportunity to correct them,” she said, emphasizing the importance of cooperation from the media.

Highlighting key challenges, she said that the city faces “thousands of problems,” adding that initiatives are already underway to address them systematically. “I am working on a priority basis, especially to eliminate mosquito infestation and improve overall sanitation,” she added.

The administrator also assured that she would stand by the citizens in solving civic issues and contribute to the development of the Barishal Press Club.

The meeting was chaired by Barishal Press Club President Aminul Islam Khasru and moderated by General Secretary SM Zakir Hossain. Members of the press club and local journalists were present at the programme.
