DHAKA, April 15, 2026 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 today deferred until April 26 the charge-framing hearing in a case over alleged crimes against humanity committed in Mohammadpur during the July uprising against 28 accused, including former minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak and former DSCC mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.

Today was fixed for holding a hearing on the matter, but the first tribunal reset the new date, allowing a plea of the prosecution, prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim told newsmen.

Four of the total 28 accused are now behind bars. They are- leaders of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) - Naimul Hasan Russel, Sajjad Hossain, Omar Faruk, and Fazle Rabbi.

The tribunal on January 18, 2026, showed the four arrested in the case and sent them to jail. It also issued arrest warrants against the other 24 on that day.

According to the prosecution, at the instigation and provocation of the accused, and with their direct and indirect presence, gunfire was opened on innocent students and members of the public during the July Mass Uprising.

"As a result, nine people, including Mahmudur Rahman Saikat and Farhan Faiyaz, were martyred in the Mohammadpur area, while many others were injured. The prosecution has sufficient evidence, including video footage, in this regard," then chief prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam said on January 18.

The other notable accused in the case are- former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman and former additional DIGs Biplob Kumar Sarker and Proloy Kumar Joarder.
