15 day horse fair begins in Dinajpur

DINAJPUR, April 26, 2026 (BSS)- The 205-year old traditional horse fair began at Chintamon village in Fulbari upazila today.

The fair titled “Bura Chintamon Ghora” is also famous for trading all kinds of cattle heads including cows, goats, handicrafts, agri products and handicrafts.

Fulbari Upazila Nirbahi Officer AHM Masum Hossain and Upazila BNP President Md. Khurshid Alam Matin inaugurated the fair.

Following the inauguration, trading of horse and other livestock began. This year printed documents for trading of the animals and other items were introduced, organizers said.

Horse traders from far flung areas of the country flocked with their animals at the fair ground which will continue for 15 days.

Organizers said the fair reflects rural culture and continues to serve as a major cultural and economic gathering for people of all ages.

Traders and horse breeders from various districts including Dinajpur, Rangpur, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Joypurhat, Bogra and the Char area of ??Mymensingh participated in the fair with more than 500 horses. 

A trader from Biral upazila Idris Ali has been taking part in the fair for last 60 years. This year he brought a foal priced at Taka 15,000.

Another trader, Abdul Matin from Nilphamari, brought five horses, including a mare with a foal, priced Taka 7 lakh. 

Fair organizer and municipal mayor Md. Shafiqul Islam said the administration and police are jointly ensuring security.
