CHATTOGRAM, April 27, 2026 (BSS): Mayor of   Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Dr. Shahadat Hossain has raised concerns about the increasing of garbage in drains and canals throughout the city, causing water logging problems.

He admonished businesses and residents for using drains as dumping sites for waste, cautioning that this behavior could hinder efforts to find lasting solutions to the issue.

To tackle the issue of water logging, the CCC has initiated a month-long cleaning program for drains and sewers in the city.
Dr. Shahadat Hossain made this announcement while supervising the "Crush Program" in various wards of the city on Monday (April 27).

During his inspection, the Mayor visited cleaning operations at Bandel Canal near J.M. Sen School in Ward No. 33, Firingibazar. He also took part in cleaning activities at Badarkhali Canal in Ward No. 34, Patharghata, and Dakshin Madhyam Pitambarsah area in Ward No. 35, Boxirhat.

The Mayor emphasized the importance of raising awareness for the success of the city's cleanliness program. He urged residents to show love and responsibility for the city by using separate dustbins at their homes and shops, and disposing of garbage properly.

The Mayor also expressed concern about the theft of dustbins and called on local leaders to monitor the situation. He highlighted the hard work of cleaning workers and stressed the need for the City Council to provide them with basic amenities, including housing.
