DHAKA, April 28, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. M A Muhit today said that inefficient use and mismanagement of resources are a bigger crisis in the country’s health sector than the shortage of resources.
He made the remarks while addressing a seminar titled “Revisiting Urban Health Systems: Research to Policy” as the chief guest in the city’s Gulshan. BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health and CHORUS (CHOREUS) organised the event.
The State Minister said, “A significant portion of our existing resources still remains underutilised or not fully utilised. It is essential to change this situation and ensure coordination between academic research and government policies to improve public health.”
Emphasising public satisfaction as a representative of the people, he said health does not mean only freedom from disease; it also involves physical and mental well-being. “We may be providing advanced treatment in hospitals, but if the environment or behaviour there does not make patients feel comfortable, that treatment is not complete.”
“As we practice people-oriented politics, our goal is to keep them satisfied. A people-friendly health system can be built only when the actual health needs of the public are properly reflected in government initiatives,” he added.
At the seminar, research findings were presented focusing on ensuring proper management of existing resources, enhancing data-driven technological capacity, and delivering quality services at people’s doorsteps by reducing inequalities in the country’s urban health system through coordinated public-private initiatives.
