BNP has got opportunity to govern country: Dr Ripon

DHAKA, June 8, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Vice Chairman Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon has urged the party leaders and activists to play a cautious, responsible and people-oriented role in properly discharging the responsibility of running the state.

BNP has got the opportunity to discharge the responsibility of governing the country through a long political struggle and sacrifices, and everyone has to work together to properly fulfil this responsibility, he said.

Dr Ripon made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a doa mahfil and discussion meeting organised by Australia BNP, marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

He joined the programme virtually at Sydney's Lakemba Library Hall on Sunday night.

Dr Ripon said, "We are in charge of governing the country. Everyone must remain vigilant so that we can properly discharge this responsibility and perform our duties beyond criticism."

He said party leaders and activists must remain careful so that no allegations of irregularities arise from their activities, adding, "There is no alternative to responsible conduct in reflecting the trust and expectations of the people."

BNP National Executive Committee International Affairs Secretary Mohammad Rashedul Haque virtually addressed the meeting as a special guest with Australia BNP President AFM Towhidul Islam in the chair and moderated by Shafiul Alam Shifok.

He highlighted various aspects of Ziaur Rahman's patriotism, honesty and political leadership and called upon leaders and activists to further strengthen the organisation.

Swechchhasebak Dal Central Committee International Affairs Secretary (joint secretary rank) Ami Ferdous also spoke as a special guest.

He discussed Ziaur Rahman's political philosophy and development thoughts.

Australia BNP Treasurer Monjurul Haque Alamgir recited from the Holy Quran and conducted the doa at the beginning of the programme.

Educationist Dr Moniruzzaman delivered the welcome speech.

Professor Dr Shah J. Mia of Newcastle University also addressed the programme virtually.

The speakers recalled the eventful life of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, his contribution to the War of Liberation and his role in strengthening the country's development and democratic process.

A special prayer was later offered seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Ziaur Rahman.

Leaders present at the programme included Ashraful Islam, Joy Ahmed Sultan, Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Arifur Rahman, Khaza Daud Hossain, Ashwadul Haque Babu, Mashiur Rahman Tuhin, Engineer Saiful Islam, Mostafizur Rahman Labu, Moksed Alam Dipu, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Delwar Hossain, Mofizul Islam Sagar, Abdul Alim, Abida Sultana, Azizun Nahar Mala, Ahsan Habib, Abu Bakar Siddique, Shahinur Rahman, Abul Hossain, Harunur Rashid, Monir Hossain Bappi, Mohammad Rafique, Saidul Islam, Mohammad Russell Mia, Mohammad Fardin, Mithu Bepari, Nure Alam, Khairul Amin, Mohammad Kamal Hossain, Mohammad Mobarak Hossain, Shafiqul Islam Shafik, Sheikh Mohammad Thomas and Mohammad Alam.

Leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies, supporters and members of the Bangladeshi community living in Australia were also present at the programme.
