RAJSHAHI, June 9, 2026 (BSS) - Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) has initiated efforts to bring greater discipline to the city's transport system, reduce public suffering and improve service quality through enhanced coordination with transport operators.

To this end, RMP today held a discussion meeting with representatives of ambulance, CNG-run auto-rickshaw, car-microbus, human hauler, mishuk and laguna owners' associations at its headquarters conference room. RMP Police Commissioner Mohammad Faizul Kabir chaired the meeting.

During the discussion, transport owners and operators raised a number of concerns, including the need for rest facilities for drivers of requisitioned vehicles, rising fuel costs and other challenges facing the transport sector.

In response, the Police Commissioner said law enforcement agencies operate within established policies and regulations, making it difficult to take immediate decisions on all issues. 

However, he assured participants that the concerns raised would be discussed with the relevant authorities and considered with due importance.

He stressed that vehicle stands should not be set up indiscriminately on roads in ways that cause traffic congestion and disrupt public movement. "Everyone must play a responsible role in establishing an orderly transport system," he said.

The Commissioner also urged ambulance owners not to charge fares beyond the approved rates, saying patients and their families should not face harassment or excessive financial burdens while seeking emergency transport services.

The meeting discussed a proposal to establish two service counters in front of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with support from the city corporation. One counter would be operated by a representative of the Ambulance Owners' Association and the other by a police officer.

Faizul Kabir expressed hope that the initiative would ensure easy access to ambulance services at fixed rates in a transparent and hassle-free manner.

Referring to Gorhanga Rail Gate as one of the city's most congested traffic points, he called on representatives managing CNG stands to play a more active role in maintaining order and supporting traffic management.

He also urged CNG owners to appoint uniformed volunteer representatives to assist traffic police in regulating vehicle movement.

According to the Commissioner, the initiative would help streamline CNG operations, ease traffic congestion and improve overall traffic management in the city.

Representatives of the transport owners' associations assured the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police of their full cooperation in implementing the proposed measures aimed at improving public services and traffic discipline.
