Ex-MP Momtaz shown arrested in attempted murder case

DHAKA, June 24, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today showed former lawmaker and noted singer Momtaz Begum arrested in a case lodged over an alleged attempt to kill Md Mukter Hossain in the city's Mirpur area during the 2024 July Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order as police produced Momtaz before the court and pleaded to show her arrested in the case. The court later sent her back to jail.

According to the case documents, Md Mukter Hossain joined anti-discrimination student movement in Mirpur Fire Service and Civil Defence Training Complex area on August 4, 2024. At one point police and Awami League men opened fire on the agitators, injuring Mukter. He later went through prolonged treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital.

Mukter filed the case with Mirpur Model Poice Station on March 17, 2025.
