DHAKA, June 25, 2026 (BSS) – Forty-three teachers and students from Gobindapur Union High School, a remote educational institution in Laksam upazila of Cumilla district, today got the opportunity to visit Bangladesh’s Jatiya Sangsad for the first time, fulfilling a long-cherished dream.

The educational tour, organized by the Visitor Branch of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, turned into a memorable and emotional experience for the participants.

Upon arrival, the delegation first visited the LD Hall and later toured various important sections of the Jatiya Sangsad complex, designed by world-renowned architect Louis I. Kahn. They also observed the ongoing budget session and visited the North and South Plazas, the scenic Crescent Lake, the main chamber and the Parliament Library, said a press release.

During a briefing session held at the Oath Room, students were introduced to the architectural significance, history and functions of the National Parliament. They expressed keen interest and enthusiasm while learning about the country’s legislative institution.

Sharing his experience, student Sigmatul Azim Jahin said, “This is my first visit to the National Parliament. The beauty of Crescent Lake and the vast library deeply impressed me. I will never forget this experience.”

Naimul Islam Opu, a Class X science student, said, “I had never imagined the Parliament building would be so beautiful and magnificent. Seeing it in person has made me very happy and inspired.”

As part of the visit, teachers and students attended a goodwill exchange programme at the Oath Room. The event was attended by Md Abul Kalam MP as the chief guest, while Secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan presided over the programme. Guests distributed commemorative gifts among the participants.

Before observing the parliamentary session, the students exchanged greetings with Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Suman. Later, they also met Deputy Leader of the Opposition Nahid Islam.

Speakers at the programme encouraged the students to cultivate patriotism, moral values and leadership qualities. They noted that the National Parliament is not merely a building but a symbol of Bangladesh’s democracy, people’s aspirations and constitutional practices. Educational visits of this nature, they said, play a vital role in helping students gain practical knowledge about state governance.

As part of the tour, the delegation also had lunch at the Parliament cafeteria. Many students said they had previously known about the National Parliament only through textbooks and television, and visiting it in person felt like a dream come true.

The teachers and students expressed their sincere gratitude to the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat and all concerned for arranging the visit. They also called for the continuation of such educational programmes in the future.

Members of the delegation said that although they could not meet Leader of the House Tarique Rahman due to his overseas visit, they had the opportunity to see Opposition Leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, cabinet members and several lawmakers in person.

According to them, the visit will remain one of the most unique and memorable experiences in the history of Gobindapur Union High School.
