Sites inspected for relocating bus terminals to ease Dhaka traffic congestion

DHAKA, July 1, 2026 (BSS) - Authorities today inspected several key locations 
as part of an initiative to relocate bus terminals and depots aimed at 
reducing traffic congestion in Dhaka.

The sites visited included Purbachal Sectors 3 and 19, Diabari, Gabtoli Bus 
Terminal, Chunkutia, Tegharia Underpass, Hasnabad, Kanchpur and the Fulbaria 
area.

The inspection was led by Member of Parliament (Pabna-5) Advocate Shamsur 
Rahman Shimul Biswas. 

Home ministry's Secretary Monjur Morshed Chowdhury, DMP Commissioner Mosleh 
Uddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division 
Anisur Rahman, Additional Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department 
A K M Azad Rahman, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman 
Mohammad Habibur Rahman, RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md Riazul Islam, Dhaka North 
City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Additional 
Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anichur Rahman, leaders of the transport 
sector and senior officials from the relevant departments were present during 
the inspection.

During the inspection, the delegation reviewed the existing infrastructure at 
the proposed locations, vehicle movement capacity, connecting roads, land 
availability and the overall suitability of the sites for establishing future 
bus terminals or depots.

Necessary directives were also provided to support efforts to reduce traffic 
congestion in the capital and make the public transport system more efficient 
and well-organized.
