DHAKA, Aug 09, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque has urged students to plant a tree each at every school and college across the country, saying records of the trees planted by students will be maintained and additional saplings will be supplied to educational institutions as necessary.

He made the call while addressing a tree plantation programme at Mirpur Girls Ideal Laboratory School and College here today.

Addressing the students, Aminul Haque said, “Each of you should plant a tree in front of your home, at your school or college, or by the roadside. Records of the trees you plant will also be maintained. There will be a list of trees planted by each school and college.”

Describing the present time as suitable for tree plantation, he said trees planted now would grow quickly due to monsoon rains and favourable weather. Therefore, students, teachers and guardians should immediately become involved in tree plantation activities.

The state minister said tree plantation is important for maintaining environmental balance and tackling the impacts of climate change.

He said the main objective of launching tree plantation programmes at schools and colleges is to create environmental awareness among students and make educational institutions greener.

He said, “Our election pledge has a target of planting 250 million trees over the next five years. Everyone must participate in this programme to make the country and cities greener.”

School authorities should encourage students to plant trees alongside classroom teaching. If every student plants a tree, he said, large-scale greening can be achieved collectively.
