Jaglul Pasha sent to jail in Khaleda Zia residence blockade case

DHAKA, Aug 13, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sent former joint secretary Syed Jaglul Pasha to jail in a case over allegedly obstructing former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia from joining a political rally by placing sand-laden trucks in front of her Gulshan residence and spraying pepper spray. 
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain passed the order as police produced Pasha before the court after the end of his seven-day remand in the case and pleaded to place him behind bars till the end of the probe. 
 
Earlier on August 6, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam placed Syed Jaglul Pasha on a seven-day remand in the case. 
 
Syed Jaglul Pasha was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police from his residence in the capital's Bashundhara area at around 1:30 am on August 5.  
 
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly placed sand-laden trucks around the former prime minister's Gulshan residence on December 29, 2013, as part of a premeditated plan to prevent her from joining the party rally. 

When Begum Khaleda Zia allegedly attempted to leave her residence, they used force and sprayed pepper spray on her, the prosecution said. 
 
A former leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Shariful Islam Shaon, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on October 4, 2024.
