DHAKA, Aug 16, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today held a tree plantation programme at Uttara here, marking the 82nd birthday of late Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

The programme was organised at Sector 18 of Uttara 3rd Phase, adjacent to Diabari 10 No. Bridge this afternoon.

Speaking as the chief guest, DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton said Miyako Forest had been inaugurated at the site as part of the forestation initiative.

More than 30,000 trees have already been planted there, he said, adding that additional spaces have been identified in the third phase for further plantation.

He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman would soon be invited to visit Miyako Forest.

Dhaka-18 lawmaker SM Jahangir Hossain, speaking as the special guest, said the initiative was part of the government's effort to build a "Clean Dhaka, Green Dhaka".

He called for united cooperation to make the constituency greener.

While chairing the programme, DNCC CEO (Additional Charge) Muhammad Asaduzzaman stressed that planting saplings alone was not enough and that proper care and protection were essential.

He said DNCC would ensure regular maintenance of the newly planted trees.

Senior DNCC officials, local leaders and citizens attended the programme.

Following the discussion, the guests planted fruit-bearing, forest and medicinal saplings.
