MANIKGANJ, Aug 16, 2026 (BSS) - The National Fisheries Fortnight 2026 was inaugurated here today with the theme "A self-reliant nation through silver 
fish, Bangladesh first," aiming to raise awareness about the importance of the fisheries sector and promote sustainable fish production across the country.

On the occasion, a rally was brought out in the district town. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita inaugurated the rally at the 
Collectorate premises. The rally paraded the main roads of the town and ended at the same venue.

Later, the minister released fish fry into the pond adjacent to the Deputy Commissioner's office as part of the observance.

A discussion was also held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner. The government officials and political leaders including journalists attended 
the event.
