DHAKA, Sep 08, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) has inaugurated at NINMAS the country's first Resona A20 ultra-high-resolution machine for measuring liver fat and detecting liver and thyroid cancers.

A scientific seminar titled “Beyond Conventional Ultrasound: ElastoscAN and Fat Quantification with High Resolution Ultrasound” was organized today at the Kamal Uddin Ahmed Auditorium by the Research Cell and Ultrasound and Color Doppler Division of NINMAS. Director of NINMAS and President of the Bangladesh Thyroid Society Professor Dr AKM Fazlul Bari presided over the seminar.

He said around 33 percent of people in Bangladesh suffer from fatty liver or liver fat-related problems. Besides, around 16 percent of people are affected by chronic liver disease and liver cancer, while 2 percent of people are affected by thyroid cancer. Against this backdrop, Mindray has supplied Bangladesh with an ultra-high-resolution machine like the Resona A20 for the first time.

He said the new machine introduced, for the first time at NINMAS, uses advanced technology ElastoscAN for detecting liver fat.

At the scientific seminar, which is highly important for patients across the country, Anup Kumar Kundu presented a scientific paper on liver elastography. Johanna Ong also spoke on ultra-high-resolution thyroid elastography and fat quantification.
