GAZIPUR, June 25, 2026 (BSS) - A young entrepreneur from Hyderabad village under Pubail Police Station in Gazipur city has set an example of success through dairy farming with determination, hard work and honesty.
Saddam Hossain, an Alim passed student from the Madrasa Board, started his journey in 2016 with a single cow to meet his family's milk needs. Encouraged by his father, he gradually expanded the venture and established a commercial dairy farm named Habib Dairy and Agro in memory of his late father.
The farm now houses 85 cows, six buffaloes, 82 goats, 10 sheep and four horses. Started with an investment of Tk 13-14 lakh, the farm's present market value is estimated at around Tk 2.5 crore.
The dairy farm produces more than 500 litres of milk daily, which is collected and marketed by around 15 milk traders. The farm also provides direct employment to seven workers, contributing to the local economy.
Saddam said honesty, compassion and dedication were the key factors behind his success. He considers his workers as members of his extended family and provides support to them during difficult times.
The farm mainly focuses on milk production and Friesian cattle breeding. Three years ago, Saddam also started goat farming with four goats, which has now expanded to 82 goats, including Black Bengal and Jamunapari breeds.
He introduced horse rearing to reduce transportation costs, using four horses to carry grass and animal feed from distant places.
Saddam said he had no formal training in livestock farming but gained knowledge through educational videos, consultations with experienced farmers and regular communication with the livestock office.
Local resident Mizanur Rahman said he was inspired by Saddam's success and started his own small dairy farm with four cows. Another neighbour, Nurul Islam, praised Saddam as the "pride of the village" for creating employment opportunities and helping disadvantaged people.
Gazipur District Livestock Officer Dr Nargis Khanam said farmers can receive necessary support from Upazila Livestock Offices. She said the district currently has 1,886 registered and unregistered dairy farms.
Sadar Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Mohammad Shaheen Mia described Saddam as a successful and progressive farmer. He said Habib Dairy and Agro is a registered farm and livestock officials have provided technical support to it.
From a single cow purchased for family needs, Saddam Hossain has built a successful livestock enterprise, proving that perseverance and ethical entrepreneurship can create employment and contribute to rural economic development.
