DHAKA, Jan 1, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed hopes that the cricketers would get their money from the franchises in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

“Since day one, we have communicated with the franchises and told them that they would have to pay the money,” Faruque said here today.

Payment issue has been a concern in BPL since its inception in 2012. It was seen in the past that the board paid the dues of players after franchises failed to do so.

Last year, Faruque had to take the charge of the BCB in awkward situation after the then president Nazmul Hassan Papon and his close directors went into hiding following the ouster of the Awami League government.

Faruque had to organize the BPL in short notice but he injected a fresh breath of air in the tournament by taking several steps. Faruque, the first cricketer of the country who became BCB president, also asked everyone to consider the franchises' perspective too considering the difficult times.

“You have to see the overall situation from everyone's perspective over the last four months. But I hope that the players will get their money,” he added.
