DHAKA, July 2, 2025 (BSS) - A poor performance in the second and final cricket Test against Sri Lanka hit Bangladesh players hard in the latest rakings, released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) today.

Bangladesh lost the two-match Test series 1-0 following an ignominious innings and 78 runs defeat to Sri Lanka in the final Test.

After such a shameful defeat, it was expected Bangladesh players would move down in the ranking update. While it was proved right, the only exception of left-arm spinner Taijul Islam who gained amid the disappointment.

Taijul claimed five-wicket haul in the only innings in Bangladesh's disastrous Colombo Test and his good performance helped him leapfrog two places to 16. However it was his second highest position in his Test rankings, having reached career-high 15th in 2023 and 2024.

Among Bangladeshi bowlers, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who went wicket-less in Colombo, has dropped three places to 25th. Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, who took three wickets, is still at 43rd place. His rating points after the Colombo Test is 488, his highest rating points in the Test rankings. Ebadot, one of the two pacers playing in Colombo, is still at 77th place. Nahid Rana has moved down seven places to 82nd place.

In batting, Bangladesh's top batter Mushfiqur Rahim has dropped one place to 29th place. Nazmul Hossain Shanto who resigned from the Test captaincy after the Colombo Test, has dropped five places to 34th. Mominul Haque has dropped two places to 52nd place. Opener Shadman is still at 54th place while Miraz has dropped two places to 55th.

Despite falling in both batting and bowling, Miraz remains at No.2 in the all-rounder rankings. Only India's Ravindra Jadeja is above him.

South Africans Wien Mulder and Corbin Bosch, who performed well with bat and ball in the Bulawayo Test against Zimbabwe, have made significant progress in the all-rounder rankings. Mulder, who hit a century and took four wickets in an innings, has moved up seven places to 15th.

Bosch, who had the double of five-wicket haul and century in a Test, has moved up 42 places to 19th. Mulder has moved up 17 places to 56th in batting, Bosch has moved up 15 places to 59th.

India's Jasprit Bumrah is at the top of the bowling rankings, while England's Joe Root is at the top of the batting rankings.
