RAJSHAHI, Aug 9, 2025 (BSS) - Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan visited the divisional stadium here this afternoon to inspect its current condition and assess its readiness to host major sporting events.

As part of his visit, the adviser distributed trophies to the champion and runner-up teams of a friendly cricket match held at the venue. The match was organized in celebration of Tarunner Utsab 2025, an initiative dedicated to building a new and dynamic Bangladesh.

In his address, Adviser Asif Mahmud announced that steps have been taken to decentralize the venues for Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches. As part of this initiative, the Rajshahi divisional stadium, along with either the Barisal or Khulna stadium, has been selected to host BPL matches for the upcoming season.

He noted that officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have already conducted a preliminary inspection of the Rajshahi stadium. Necessary renovation and upgrade works will soon begin to prepare the facility for high-profile matches.

"Once the renovations are complete, Rajshahi is expected to host several BPL matches this year," said the adviser.

Highlighting the importance of regional development in sports, he added, "This decentralization effort aims to expand cricket nationwide. We want to create more opportunities for young talents across the country to rise and represent Bangladesh at the national level."
