National women's handball meet begins tomorrow

DHAKA, Aug 15, 2025 (BSS)- Ruchi 36th National Women's Handball competition, 
marking the Festival of Youth 2025, begins from tomorrow (Saturday) at 
Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in the capital.

Youth and Sports Secretary Mahbub-Ul Alam is expected to be opened the meet 
as the chief guest on Sunday (Aug 17), one day after the competition begins.

Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, additional inspector general of police of the Armed 
Police Battalion and Md. Shahriar Alam, marketing manager of the sponsoring 
organisation Square Food and Beverage Limited, will be present there as 
special guests.

Nineteen teams, including services associations and District Sports 
Association (DSA), will take part in the meet, organised by Bangladesh 
Handball Federation and sponsored by Square Food and Beverage Limited.

The competition will be held in two phases. The first phase will begin on 
August 16 with the participation of 10 teams divided into two groups.

Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, Faridpur, Barguna, Sherpur, Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh 
Police, Madaripur, Kushtia, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Dinajpur DSAs 
will play in the first phase.

The second phase of the competition will begin on August 20 with the 
participation of nine teams, split into two groups. The second phase's teams 
are Jamalpur, Naogaon, Jahangirnagar University, Panchagarh, Narail, Jashore, 
Dhaka, Bogura and Gopalganj DSAs.

The semi-finals of the meet will be held on August 24 with the group 
champions from the four groups in the two rounds while the final is slated 
for August 25.
