National U-20 chess championship begins

DHAKA, Oct 7, 2025 (BSS) - The 42nd National Under-20 Chess Championship, featuring both open and girls' sections, commenced today at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall.

Boys and girls under the age of 20 from across the country are taking part in the competition. 

In the open section, 76 players from 17 districts are competing, while the girls' section features 30 participants from 10 districts.

In the opening round of the open section, 34 players, including FIDE Master Sakline Mostafa Sajid, Mohammed Shaker Ullah, Candidate Master Md. Sajidul Haque, Swarnavo Choudhury, Rayan Rashid Mugdho, Candidate Master Md. Azmaeen Parvez Sayor, Oitijjo Barua, Radmim Raha Rajya, Siam Chowdhury, Muhtadi Tajwar Nashid, Ajraf Anan, Abrab Reazul Ahanaf Mohammad, and Safayat Kibria Azaan, won their respective matches to secure full points.

In the girls' section, 15 players claimed victories in the opening round, including Woman FIDE Master Warsia Khusbu, Woman Candidate Master Nusrat Jahan Alo, Woman Candidate Master Israt Jahan Diba, Woman Candidate Master Omnia Binte Yusuf Lubaba, Jannatul Preety, Woman Candidate Master Neelava Choudhury, Jinnat Akhter Shahnaz, and Woman Candidate Master Warisa Haider.

Both sections of the championship are being conducted in a nine-round Swiss League format.
