Dutch 400m hurdles star Bol to focus on 800m next season

PARIS, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Dutch 400m hurdles double world champion Femke Bol said on Friday she will focus on the 800m next season.

"The 400m hurdles provided me with unforgettable moments and shaped me into the athlete I am today," Bol wrote on her Instagram account on Friday.

"But I want to challenge myself again and push my boundaries," she explained.

"The 800m is new and unfamiliar territory, and that's precisely what makes it so interesting."

Reigning Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson commented to Bol's post: "Can't wait to share the startline."

The 25-year-old Bol, who retained her world title last month, made the decision to switch with her coach Laurent Meuwly.

The Tokyo triumph, where she blazed home in a time of 51.54sec ahead of American Jasmine Jones and Slovakia's Emma Zapletalova, marked the end of another successful season for Bol, who completed an incredible sixth Diamond League campaign unbeaten.
