Bangladesh finish fifth beating Chinese Taipei

DHAKA, April 10, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh hockey team finished fifth position in the Men's Asian Games Qualifiers beating Chinese Taipei by 3-2 goals in the fifth-to-sixth place decider held in Thailand today (Friday).

In the keenly contested match, Asraful Islam scored a brace in the 7th and 17th minutes while Samin supported him with a lone goal in the 38th minute for Bangladesh who already qualified in the Asian Games. 

Earlier, Bangladesh beat Chinese Taipei by 4-3 goals in their opening pool B match but suffered a 3-2 goal defeat to Sri Lanka in their second match.

In their third group match, Bangladesh played out to a 1-1 draw with Uzbekistan.

Bangladesh finally qualified in the Asian Games 2026 following a nail-biting 3-2 penalty shootout victory against Hong Kong. 

The top six teams out of the nine teams in the qualifiers have got the opportunity to go to the Asian Games, also known as 20th Asian Games, will be held Aichi-Nagoya, Japan from September 19 to October 4.
