
DHAKA, April 24, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh women's hockey team secured a historic victory in just their second international match, defeating Uzbekistan 3-2 in the Women's Asian Games Qualifying Hockey tournament held in Jakarta, Indonesia today.
After a 5-5 draw against Chinese Taipei in their opening match on Thursday last, the Bangladeshi girls bounced back strongly on to register their maiden win at the international level.
With four points from two matches, Bangladesh now sits at the top of their group. The team, donning the red-and-green jersey, will face Hong Kong in their final group match on Sunday.
In the proceeding, Bangladesh took the lead in the 11th minute through Sharika Rimon.
Meanwhile goals from Kona Akter in the 24th minute and Irene Akter Riya in the 40th minute secured Bangladesh deserving victory.
No further goals were scored in the remaining time, as Bangladesh held on to secure a memorable win.
Irene Akter Riya was named player of the match for her outstanding performance.
