Tamim obtains highest vote in BCB elections

DHAKA, June 7, 2026 (BSS) – Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal emerged as the highest vote-getter in the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) election, held at the board's headquarters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.

Voting took place in the BCB board room and concluded at 4 PM, while the counting process ended at 6 PM.

Tamim, president of the BCB ad-hoc committee was the candidate from Category -2, which represented the cricket clubs of Dhaka.

A total of 16 candidates contested from the club category for 12 director positions. Tamim, the councilor of Old DOHS secured the highest number of votes with 73, followed by Syed Ibrahim Ahmed and Israfil Khasru, who received 72 votes each.

The other successful candidates were Masuduzzaman (70 votes), Faisal Yasir (68), Fahim Sinha (66), Shahnian Tanim (66), Asif Rabbani (64), Mirza Yasir Abbas (63), Rafiqul Islam Babu (53), Dr. Mahbub Shamim (41) and Sakef Ahmed Salam (41).

Of the 76 eligible votes in the club category, 74 were cast.

The four unsuccessful candidates were Borhanul Pappu, who received 40 votes, Amjad Hossain (32), Fayazur Rahman Mitu (23) and Imroz Ahmed (20).

The election was held in the presence of the voters and it marked another key step in the formation of the BCB's new Board of Directors panel.
