Neer Beats Belgian Grandmaster to Stay Perfect in Budapest

DHAKA, July 14, 2026 (BSS) - International Master (IM) Monon Reza Neer defeated Belgium's Grandmaster Igor Glek in the second round of the Vezerkepzo Summer 2026 GM Tournament, currently being held in Budapest, Hungary. 

Playing with the white pieces on Monday, Neer delivered an impressive performance to overcome the experienced Belgian Grandmaster, said a press release.


Earlier, the Bangladeshi IM had defeated India's FIDE Master Vaibhav Jayant Raut in the opening round of the tournament.


With two wins from two games, Neer has a perfect score of two points and currently sits at the top of the standings after the second round.

The 10-player round-robin tournament features competitors from Bangladesh, Belgium, Hungary, India, the Netherlands, Serbia, and Chinese Taipei, including three Grandmasters, five International Masters, and two FIDE Masters.
