World Tourism Day observed in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Sept 27, 2025 (BSS) - The World Tourism Day was observed today with the call for taking effective and necessary steps aimed at promoting tourism in Rajshahi as the region is enriched with ancient archaeological sites and charming natural beauty.  

To mark the day, the district administration and Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation jointly brought out a rally on the collectorate building premises followed by a meeting at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) office.

The United Nations World Tourism Organization, has declared "Tourism and Sustainable Transformation," as the main theme for World Tourism Day 2025, which aims to highlight the transformative potential of tourism and its capacity to serve as a force for positive change.

DC Afia Akhter, In-charge of Tourist Police Zabed Masud, Manager of Parjatan Motel Motaher Hossain and Deputy Director of District Information Office Nafeyala Nasrim, among others, addressed the meeting.

Afia Akhter said, “Local tourists can be the biggest source of revitalizing the tourism sector. So, there is no way but to improve the Bangladesh Tourism Board activities to the marginal level”.

She added “Formulation work of a 20-year master plan has started for the development of the country's tourism sector. Upon successful implementation of the plan, the sector will reach great heights”. 

She also mentioned that an investment-friendly atmosphere is needed for successful promotion of tourism in addition to improving communication and services along with need-based infrastructural development.

Arrival method of the tourists needs to be easy for the sector. Tourism is also a big scope of employment generation. 

If tourism flourishes, employment will be generated in all the districts equally. The master plan should be formulated taking all the issues into consideration.
