MANIKGANJ, April 22, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has set a target to produce 3,812 tons of sesame from 3,941 hectares of land in the district during the current season.

Sesame cultivation is going on in full swing across all seven upazilas of the district, with 2,312 hectares of land already brought under cultivation, officials said.

Good yields in recent years and favourable market prices have encouraged farmers to expand sesame cultivation over the past several seasons.

Once barren, the sandy char areas of Daulatpur, Shibalaya, and Harirampur upazilas of the district are now being brought under sesame cultivation.

Dr. Robiah Noor Ahmed, Deputy Director of the DAE in Manikganj, said sesame cultivation is proving profitable for farmers.

"The soil in the char areas is especially suitable for sesame cultivation, and farmers are getting fair prices for their produce," she added.
