CHATTOGRAM, Feb 15, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said that the country must adhere and return back exactly to the free market economic policy adopted by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to achieve sustainable economic growth.

"After 1975, the country had seen unprecedented success in key-areas of economy like  GDP growth , human resources development , agriculture and garment sectors following introduction of the free market economy by Shaeed Zia keeping priority on national interest” he said while inaugurating a trade fair in the city on Saturday afternoon.

The fortnight long fair titled 'Asia International Trade Fair Bangladesh-2025' is being held at the International Convention Center at city’s Kazir Dewri area.

Dr. Shahadat said small and medium scale businessmen are facing various problems due to tricky and unethical business practices by a group of big businessmen.

Rampant unethical business practices by the racket of big businessmen have caused gradual elimination of SMEs from the country's economic landscape during last 16 years, he said.

Recalling the long heritage of the port city in the arena of trade and investment, the mayor said honest and innovative businessmen should work together to bring back past glory of this business hub so that it could contribute more to the country’s economic growth.

The organizer of the Asia International Trade Fair and Managing Director of Mia Trade International, Md. Ishaq Mia, presided over the event while former General Secretary of City BNP, Abul Hashem Bakkar, spoke as a special guest.

Pakistani businessman Afsa Mansur, Indian businessman Miraj Kashmir, fair organizing committee members Ferdous Ahmed Liton, Enayet Hossain Forkan, Junaid Ahmed, among others, also spoke at the fair.

Over two hundred shops have been set up at the fair by business enterprises from home and abroad including India, Pakistan, Thailand, Nepal, Iran and China with their various types of products.
