DHAKA, April 20, 2025 (BSS) - Three members of a family sustained burn injuries in a fire that broke out due to a gas leak at a residence in the city's Fakirapul area this morning.

The victims were identified as Kamrunnesa, 45, Kulsum Akter, 25, and Riaz Hossain, 21.

Locals said the fire originated from a gas leak during cooking around 11:30am at a four-storey building in the Gorom Panir Goli area of Fakirapul.

"Hearing their screams, nearby residents rushed to the spot, rescued the victims, and took them to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery," said Ibrahim Khalil, a neighbour of the victims.

Dr. Shawn Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the hospital, said, "The extent of the burn injuries is yet to be determined."

Of the injured, two women are undergoing treatment, while one person has been released from the hospital, he added.
