DHAKA, Feb 16, 2025 (BSS) - More than 1.4 million taxpayers have so far submitted their returns through online this year while more than 1.8 million taxpayers have completed registration for e-returns.

The National Board of Revenue's (NBR’s) online income tax return filing system has received a huge response from taxpayers, according to an NBR press release.

It said based on the demands and opinions from the esteemed taxpayers, the online return filing process has been gradually simplified and made more taxpayer-friendly.

The NBR has already decided to continue the online income tax return filing service throughout the year even after the Income Tax Day.

If the return is submitted after the Income Tax Day, the taxpayer will not get investment tax rebate and any tax exemption as per the Section 76 of the Income Tax Act, 2023.

Moreover, additional tax will be imposed at the rate of 2% per month (maximum 24 months) as per the Section 174 of the Income Tax Act, 2023 on the amount of tax that remains unpaid on the tax day.

The revenue board also thanked the taxpayers who filed their income tax returns online and thus encourages them to use online services for filing income tax returns and obtaining income tax certificates.
