DHAKA, April 06, 2025 (BSS) - Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed today said the new tariffs imposed by the United States (US) authorities will not be difficult for the country's economy to manage.
"The government has taken necessary initiatives to negotiate with the US authorities regarding the tariff. The impact on the economy due to the new tariffs imposed by the US will not be difficult to manage. We are hopeful that something good will come out of it," he said.
The adviser made the remarks while talking to journalists at the Secretariat, the first working day after the Eid holidays.
So far, Bangladeshi goods have faced an average 15% tariff in the US. On April 2, the Trump administration announced an additional 37% tariff.
Salehuddin, however, said that commodity prices had remained stable during Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr, providing relief to the public.
“This time people had a good Eid. In March, the country received $3 billion in remittances. As a result, the foreign exchange reserves also increased,” he added.
He said the country's economic situation is improving, and the reserve has also increased.
