GAZIPUR, Oct 07, 2025 (BSS) - Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid today announced her commitment to restructure government-run institutions by eliminating widespread corruption and making them self-sufficient.

“The goal is to operate Maitri Shilpa in such a way that the government is not required to provide annual subsidies,” she said while talking to journalists during the visit at Physically Handicapped Protection Trust (Sharirik Protibondhi Surokkha Trust) at Tongi, Gazipur.

In her speech, she stated her intention to develop the organization—which serves persons with special needs—into a successful, profitable enterprise.

Murshid highlighted the depth of the problems facing government projects and said that wherever they investigate, they find corruption and mismanagement.

She pointed out the substantial financial dependency of the institution, noting that Maitri Shilpa in Tongi received a TK 22    crore subsidy in the current fiscal year.

She stressed the urgent need to change the operating mentality that relies on taking subsidies for years.

To steer the institution toward a profitable position without relying on subsidies, the adviser intends to implement crucial changes.
