Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Oct 07, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, plummeted by 46.6 points to settle at 5,377 points as against 5,424 points in the previous trading session. 

Market turnover also increased by 6.9% to Taka 7.9 billion from Taka 7.4 billion of the previous session.

On the sectoral front, General Insurance (13.6%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Life Insurance (11.0%) and Bank (9.7%) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed dismal returns, out of which Ceramic (-2.8%), IT (-2.7%) and Paper (-2.5%) exerted the most corrections on the bourse today, while only General Insurance (3.0%) exhibited marginal gains. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 85 advanced, 277 declined and 35 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, however, settled on a negative zone. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell by 58.2 points and 107.4 points, respectively.
