Stocks extend gaining streak

DHAKA, May 12, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-- today witnessed an upward trend like earlier as investors continued their buying spree on large-cap issues amid optimism.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, advanced by 19.3 points to settle at 4,922 points, as against 4,902 points in the previous trading session. 

Market analysts observed that the indices mostly remained upbeat, primarily riding on investors' buying interest on particular large-cap issues owing to positive expectations of a potential recovery. 

However, trading activities remained stagnant with total turnover in DSE being low at Taka 3.6 billion. On the sectoral front, Bank (21.9%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Mutual Fund (13.6%) and Fuel & Power (10.8%) sectors. 

Sectors mostly displayed mixed returns, out of which Mutual Fund (3.6%), General Insurance (3.4%) and Bank (1.3%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while Jute (-1.1%), Services (-0.9%) and Ceramic (-0.7%) exerted the most correction. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 189 advanced, 158 declined and 50 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on positive zone. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) rose by 14.4 points and 19.2 points, respectively.
