DHAKA, May 14, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, fell by 39.0 points or 0.8% to settle at 4,836 points, as against 4,875 points in the previous trading session.

Market analysts observed that despite a brief spell of buying interest in the early trading session, the benchmark index gradually succumbed to the selling spree later in the session today as investors continued to offload their holdings to limit further losses and shifted to the sidelines amid the absence of strong positive catalysts to revive the market momentum.

Market turnover also declined by 14.5% to Taka 2.9 billion as against Taka 3.4 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Bank (18.3%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Food (11.7%) and Mutual Fund (11.1%) sectors. All the sectors, except Paper (0.6%), ended in red, out of which Ceramic (-3.9%), Travel (-2.4%) and Services (-2.2%) exhibited the most negative returns on the bourse today.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 59 advanced, 290 declined and 48 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE also settled on a negative note. The Selective Categories Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 38.8 and 71.5 points, respectively.
