graduation was held at a hotel in the capital today under the joint
initiative of the Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters
Association (BPGMEA) and the Business Promotion Council (BPC) of the Ministry
of Commerce.

The validation workshop was held under the title "Factory Audit on Hazarad
Identification, Risk Assessment and Control" while the title of the seminar
was "Preparedness of Private Sector for LDC Graduation-Strategies for
Surviving the Challenges".

Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman spoke at the seminar as the chief guest
with President of the BPGMEA Shamim Ahmed in the chair.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, CEO of
the Business Promotion Council and Joint Secretary of Ministry of Commerce
Nahid Afroz spoke as special guests.

Ferdous Ara Begum, CEO of Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD),
presented the keynote paper at the seminar while Lead Assessor of Imarat
Designers and Consultants SM Saiful Islam presented
the keynote address at the workshop.

Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman emphasized on boosting the export of
plastic products.

BPGMEA President Shamim Ahmed said despite the global economic recession, the
country's plastic sector has been able to maintain its export trend.

"Local companies are now producing world-class plastics while this is making
foreign buyers more interested in buying products from Bangladesh," he added.

AS being a strong and effective trade association in the country, the BPGMEA
has been playing its role in policy making, holding discussions with the
concerned government agencies and continuing communication with the foreign
plastics industry sector.
