Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, May 15, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses - Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, plunged by 54.6 points to settle at 4,781 points, as against 4,836 points in the previous trading session.

Meanwhile, trading activities remained stagnant with total turnover in DSE being low at Taka 3 billion as most investors shy away from taking position in equities considering the current depressed state of the market.

On the sectoral front, Bank (17.6%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (14.6%) and Food (11.7%) sectors. Almost all the sectors displayed dismal returns, out of which Paper (-3.5%), Jute (-3.3%) and Mutual Fund (-2.6%) exerted the most correction on the bourse today, while only Tannery (0.7%) exhibited marginal gain.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 42 advanced, 316 declined and 39 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on red zone. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell by 82.2 points and 137.5 points, respectively.
