DHAKA, May 20, 2025 (BSS) - The Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) today urged the government to scrap forever all the direct and indirect scopes for whitening the undisclosed money through promulgating an ordinance.
The TIB urged the Finance Adviser for taking steps to scrap immediately some of the corruption-friendly, unconstitutional and discriminatory provisions to set up an example.
In a press release, the TIB said that such amnesty for whitening undisclosed wealth was given for some 21 times during different regimes since the country's independence which had discouraged the honest taxpayers side by side help awarding corruption and ensured its spread.
The release said the last authoritarian government had given such amnesty without any question for the current fiscal year (FY25), but after taking office, the interim government scrapped such provision of whitening undisclosed money through paying a 15 percent tax.
TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said that they strongly demand before the government to scrap some of the existing provisions allowing the scope for whitening undisclosed amount which is also contradictory to the section 20 (2) of the constitution.
He also hoped to get positive reflection in this regard as a formal letter has already been sent to the Finance Adviser to this end.
