DHAKA, May 21, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) today also witnessed an upward trend like earlier as investors continued their buying spree on large-cap issues amid optimism.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, gained 6.3 points to settle at 4,801 points as against 4,795 points in the previous trading session.

Market analysts observed that a cautious selling approach persisted as jittery investors continued to capitalize on opportunities to liquidate their holdings in the volatile market.

Moreover, mutual fund scrips dominated the top gainers' list, driven by buying interest from shortterm profit-seeking investors following the recent amendment proposal to mutual fund rules by the Capital Market Reform Task Force.

Meanwhile, trading activities also slightly increased by 9.6% to Taka 3.3 billion compared to Taka 3.0 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Bank (21.0%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (15.8%) and Food (9.1%) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed positive returns, out of which Mutual Fund (3.3%), Jute (1.5%) and Life Insurance (1.3%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while Telecom (-1.5%) and Bank (-0.2%) exerted some correction.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 227 advanced, 98 declined and 72 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange, also settled on green zone. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) advanced by 16.8 points and 29.6 points, respectively.
