47th 'SAARCFINANCE Governors' Group meeting tomorrow

DHAKA, June 25, 2025 (BSS) - The '47th SAARCFINANCE Governors' Group Meeting and Symposium', organized by the SAARCFINANCE Wing, Research Department of Bangladesh Bank, will be held tomorrow at Hotel InterContinental in the city.
 
Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, will chair the SAARCFINANCE Governors' Group Meeting, said a press release. 
 
In addition, a full-day SAARCFINANCE Governors' Symposium will be held along with the group meeting. 
 
The expected audience in Governors' Symposium will include delegates from the central banks of SAARC member countries as well as officials from various government ministries, the Bangladesh Bank, different commercial banks, financial institutions (FIs) and representatives from research institutions in Bangladesh.
 
In the early morning session, the SAARCFINANCE Governors' Group Meeting will be held with the participation of Governors, Finance Secretaries, and representatives from SAARC member countries. 
 
The meeting will focus on discussing significant macro-financial policy issues pertaining to the overall macroeconomic landscape of the South Asian region.
 
Besides, in the inaugural ceremony of 47th SAARCFINANCE Governors' Symposium, Dr. Sayera Younus, Executive Director (Research) at Bangladesh Bank will deliver the Welcome Remarks. 
 
Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, will deliver keynote speech in this Symposium. 
 
In addition, Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Mozumder, Secretary, Finance Division, Ministry of Finance, and Dasho Penjore, Governor, Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan will deliver their speeches as special guests in this esteemed Symposium. 
 
The Chief Guest Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur, Governor, Bangladesh will deliver his inaugural remarks in this symposium.
 
The symposium will be conducted in two working sessions where representatives from central banks of SAARC countries will present their country papers. 
 
The theme of the 47th SAARCFINANCE Governors' Group Meeting and Symposium is "Financial Inclusion and Central Banking: Bridging Gaps in the SAARC Region".

This meeting is a key platform for enhancing regional financial cooperation among SAARC member central banks.
 
The symposium facilitates constructive dialogue on pressing macro-financial issues and reviews progress on collaborative initiatives. 
 
Discussions will cover the SAARCFINANCE Roadmap for 2025-2030, sustainable finance efforts, and updates to the SAARCFINANCE Scholarship Scheme where Bangladesh Bank and Ministry of Finance officials are participating in PhD and Masters Program. 
 
The group meeting agenda issues highlight the regional commitment to financial stability, knowledge exchange, and inclusive growth.
 
The meeting outcomes are expected to promote regional integration and strengthen institutional capacity. Ultimately, this SAARC central banks assembly will support coordinated policy responses and contribute to South Asian macroeconomic resilience. 
 
The SAARCFINANCE Network originated from the 10th SAARC Summit held in Colombo on July 29, 1998.
 
The Heads of the State/government of the SAARC Region agreed, in principle, to establish a "Network of Central Bank Governors and Finance Secretaries of the SAARC Region (SAARCFINANCE)" to facilitate dialogues on macro-economic policies and share mutual experiences and ideas.
