Fisherman wounded by crocodile receives Taka one lakh compensation

BAGERHAT, Oct 6, 2025 (BSS) - A fisherman injured in a crocodile attack in the Eastern Sundarbans received compensation today from the Forest Department.

East Sundarbans Division's Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury handed over a cheque of Taka one lakh to injured fisherman Saiful Jamaddar at the DFO office.

According to the Forest Department, Saiful, son of Golam Mostafa of Joymoni village in Mongla Upazila, was seriously injured in a crocodile attack on October 7, 2024, while catching crabs on the Pashur River.

Fellow fishermen rescued him and took him to Mongla Upazila Health Complex. Later, he was transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. After a long treatment, fisherman Saiful returned home.

East Sundarbans Division DFO Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury told BSS that the compensation was provided under the Wildlife Victims Compensation Rules 2021.
