Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Sept 09, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, lost 89.3 points to settle at 5,538 points as against 5,628 points in the previous trading session. 

Meanwhile, market turnover also decreased by 16.0% to Taka 11.8 billion from Taka 14.0 billion in the previous session. 

On the sectoral front, Pharma (12.9%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Engineering (10.2%) and Textile (10.2%) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed dismal returns, out of which Ceramic (-3.3%), Travel (-3.2%) and General Insurance (-2.8%) exerted the most corrections on the bourse today, while Life Insurance (0.3%) and IT (0.3%) exhibited marginal return.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 65 advanced, 301 declined and 31 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on negative terrain. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) plunged by 127.3 points and 202.5 points, respectively.
