DHAKA, Oct 5, 2025 (BSS) - Lakshmi Puja, a religious festival of the Hindu community, will be celebrated tomorrow with due religious fervour and enthusiasm.

The Puja takes place on the first full-moon night after the end of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of Hindus.

This full-moon night is also called "Kujagori Purnima", and that is why this puja is also known as "Kujagori Lakshmi Puja".

According to Hindu scripture, Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, development, light, fortune, benevolence, courage and beauty. Considering this aspect, Lakshmi is called as goddess of wealth.

The Hindus believe that Goddess Lakshmi arrives to receive worship on the night of Purnima to give blessings of prosperity. In this belief, Bangali Hindus perform Lakshmi Puja in each of their houses.

Apart from this annual puja, Lakshmi Puja is also performed every Thursday in many families of Bengali Hindus.

Many Hindu women do fasting during Lakshmi Puja. In addition to the worship, footprints of Lakshmi will be painted in the courtyards of the houses. Lamps will be lit up in the evening. Various religious rituals are usually performed in Lakshmi Puja in a home environment.
