Coast Guard detains 12 with stolen coal, lighter vessel in Barishal

DHAKA, Nov 28, 2025 (BSS) - The Coast Guard detained 12 individuals along with a large quantity of stolen coal and a lighter vessel during an operation in Barishal.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lt Commander Siam-ul-Haq disclosed the information this morning, Friday.

He said , acting on secret information, Barishal Coast Guard Station conducted a special operation on Thursday at Char Monai Anandaghat area under Kotwali Police Station.

During the operation, the Coast Guard searched a suspicious lighter vessel and detained 12 smugglers with 1,100 metric tonnes of stolen coal worth around Taka 1.10 crore.

During primary interrogation, the detainees admitted that the coal had been illegally smuggled from a foreign ship stationed at Hiron Point in Mongla.

The seized coal, the lighter vessel used for smuggling and the detained individuals were handed over to Kotwali Police Station for further legal action.

Lt Commander Siam said the Coast Guard will continue such operations to curb smuggling.
