Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Sept 10, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.

The DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, lost 65.1 points to close at 5,473, down from 5,538 in the previous session. 

Meanwhile, market turnover contracted by 19.3% to Taka 9.5 billion, compared to Taka 11.7 billion in the previous session. 

Sectoral participation was led by Pharmaceuticals (12.9%), followed by Engineering (11.4%) and Textiles (9.5%). All sectors closed lower, with notable corrections in Life Insurance (-5.3%), IT (-4.2%), and Financial Institutions (-3.6%). 

Out of 397 traded issues, 42 advanced, 309 declined, and 46 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse mirrored the downbeat trend, as the CSE’s Selective Categories Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 86.5 points and 143.1 points, respectively.
